Technical Website Guidelines

Posted by jane - May 5, 2010

Following on from the tips taken from Google Webmaster Tools on design guidelines, this is a selection of the technical stuff. Hopefully written in plain english!

  • If you have a Content Management System, make sure the search engines can still crawl and find them.
  • Test your site in different browsers so that it appears correctly.
  • Keep an eye on how long each page takes to load. Pages that load quickly create a better user experience.
  • Avoid using too many fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash as the search engine spiders may not find everything.

These are just a few brief outlines, the rest is very technical and intended for Web Developers.
