Trip To Northern Italy

Gondola in Venice

Have you ever been do Italy?  If not then it is one of those places you have to go.  We have spent a week (not long enough) staying on the magical Lake Garda in the town of Garda.  A beautiful town devoted to tourism but done so well, and an ideal place to base yourself and explore the area.  Trips to the northern part of the lake take you into areas resembling Austria (used to be in Austrian rule). Go to the South and you are in the beautiful and historic town of Verona ( think of films about the Romans and your in Verona).  Go further afield and your in the amazing city Venice. A unique city with great architecture and history.  Take a Gondola ride (make sure the price is right) it is one of those things you have to do and well worth it.  One piece of advise, try and go to Venice at the beginning or end of the season, it will be less hot and not so crowded.

Hooper Graphics mention in West Briton

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

There was a nice piece in the West Briton a few weeks ago, all about the new maps and leaflets that Redruth Town Council have produced. Hooper Graphics did the brand identity and designed the leaflet and I got a mention for the work that I did, which was nice, and they included my quote.

Holiday Brochures — are they relevant?

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Lake Garda and it just made me ponder how relevant it is to still have brochures. Personally I won’t book a holiday without looking at one.

Jane and daughters in Lake Garda

That might seem a very old fashioned view, with websites like Trip Advisor, Expedia, Last Minute etc etc or Travel Agents websites, that can be very informative with loads of photographs that are not contained in the brochure. I would totally agree, when booking a holiday I look at all those, and find out as much information as I can. However I do like to sit down and pour over different brochures first to get my ideas of where I might fancy, then I go online and do my research.

I have yet to be disappointed, and my recent trip to Lake Garda confirmed that, incidentally I also took my Inghams brochure on holiday with me, so I could confirm it was as I expected!

But what about you? I am asking this question on Hooper Graphics Facebook Page and so please vote, or leave a comment I would love to know what you have to say.

Journal 2012 goes to press

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

There is always a great sense of satisfaction when a large job is finished and goes off to the printers.

I have been busy during the last few months typesetting this year’s edition of The Journal, which is produced by Royal Cornwall Museum for the Royal Institution of Cornwall and I have just approved the final proof from the printers. So the presses can start rolling.

I have been helping to produce this piece of historic work for nearly 20 years and I really enjoy reading the articles, whilst typesetting it, all about the history of Cornwall.

Trip To Botallick

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

The West of Cornwall on a sunny day.  Travel to Geevor Mine and take a look around the interesting mine workings. You can walk across to Levant mine and if you are feeling really energetic continue walking to the mine workings of Botallick perched on the edge of the cliff.  It is hard to comprehend how men worked in these conditions not to mention the daily commute of an hour or so from their home to the mine face.
