Have you always thought a cactus was just a prickly plant. When in flower they have some of the most beautiful vibrant blooms you will every see. This is just one example from the second book of Flowering Cacti produced by Hooper Graphics for a local Redruth grower.

Friday, August 12th, 2011Working with an Agency
Friday, January 28th, 2011I have just read a really good blog from Rene Power about how to make the most of your Agency. I thought I would share it with you.
We are, after all, working towards the same goals, so if can work together on achieving those goals, the success will be greater.
Christmas Catalogues
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010Earlier in the year I said that I didn’t think was print was dead – and here is another example.
How many people, when thinking about their Christmas shopping, go into various high street stores and come out with their Christmas catalogue. I reckon there must be quite a few for their popularity is increasing.
It makes sense really doesn’t it, instead of trudging around the stores, you can sit at home and ponder the various offerings and decide what the buy for people.
Of course it goes without saying that if you want a catalogue producing – then Hooper Graphics can help you!
Copyright rules
Thursday, November 18th, 2010Copyright rules can be very complicated but I have just found this very good article that lists clearly what UK law allows you to do.
Top 10 Copyright Myths page from UK Copyright Service.
Well worth a read if you are in any doubt – could save you time and money!
Incidentally one of the reasons that research is necessary when designing anything, is just to make sure you make sure that you conform to copyright law.
Casino Fundraising Dinner
Monday, November 15th, 2010Redruth Chamber of Commerce held its annual Casino Fundraising Dinner at the weekend at Penventon Hotel, Redruth.
The Theme was Speakeasy and it was great to see so many people dressed up as Gangsters and Molls – we even had a Gangster on the door making sure no-one got in without a ticket! The room was decorated with black and red balloons, with large mono prints hung on the walls (these were auctioned at the end of the evening).
There was fantastic support from local businesses and national organisation’s as well, and although the official final figure has not yet been announced, I hear we raised a lot of money – over £2000!
The money raised is partly going towards RedYOUth, a local youth organisation that seeks to keep youngsters occupied and off the streets. They have a fantastic dance group and are now offering other activities and getting involved in lots of community work.
The other money is to help Redruth Christmas Lights Group – the Insurance Bill for putting up lights is very high, but Redruth Chamber is delighted to carry on providing the insurance cover for the Group, so that Redruth can be “lit-up” at Christmas.
So thanks to everyone involved.
Hooper Graphics was delighted to sponsor the design of the posters, programmes and to be involved in decorating the room.
CPR Annual Review
Monday, October 11th, 2010I was delighted to be given the opportunity of designing the Annual Review 2009/10 for CPR Regeneration. It was printed by St Austell Printing Company on Cocoon, an excellent uncoated paper stock with excellent “green” credentials.
I have received very good feedback from CPR
It has been a pleasure to work with Hooper Graphics. Jane responded really well to our brief and delivered on all the aspects of creative design and cost-effective print that we needed. We have already received compliments about the report and would certainly recommend working with Hooper Graphics.

Out of Office email
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010I read an interesting piece of advice about ‘out of office’ email replies and I am not sure if it is worth adopting or not.
They pose the question – does using an automatic reply attract more junk mail. After all a lot of junk mail is sent randomly, if you respond then they know they have found a ‘real’ person and send more. So what are the options.
This article, and it came from MacUser magazine, suggests setting up a rule so that it doesn’t send it to anything that is judged to be junk – but this will depend on how your junk filter is set up.
Another suggestion is to email all your clients before you go away, this would work fine if going on holiday, but if just out of the office for a day, people might get fed up!
Then you have mailing lists that you subscribe to, could a bounce back mean you lose your subscription.
The last problem is this ‘out of office’ reply will also tell everyone you are not at home – do they know your home address?
This obviously needs thinking about and I would welcome your thoughts and comments.
Using iPhoto library
Friday, October 1st, 2010Do you sometimes struggle to find, on your hard drive, the images contained within iPhoto?
In order to make the most of iPhoto you need to understand how it works. It stores things in its own sweet way and if you are not careful you can end up losing images.
So if you want to get an image from your iPhoto library there are several options.
- Click on the image and simply drag it to your desktop
- Click on the image and copy it, then open up Photoshop and press paste.
- Click on the image, then right click and follow the ‘Show Original Option’, it will then show which folder it has saved it.
- Click on the image, and select ‘Export’ from the File menu – you can then choose the various export options.
They are the ones I choose – nice and simple.
I believe you can configure iPhoto to work the same way as iTunes in the way it stores the files, by storing them in a specific folder but this does limit options within iPhoto.
Fake LinkedIn e-mails
Thursday, September 30th, 2010Just read an interesting post by Adam White at Kintish Ltd. They have a Group of which I am a member called Kintish Business Networking and Adam highlights a problem that Cisco reported on about billions of fake LinkedIn e-mails.
They include links that could install data-stealing malware on computers if clicked on. Read the full article by Elinor Mills at CNET News.
